It felt like they CARED about making it such a statement of a game.As a kid who was riding the wave of the Star Wars revival, this game was the closest thing to feeling like I was flying in an X-Wing.The soundtrack contains a total of 48 songs, divided evenly into two discs Disc 1 features the menu and in-game music that plays until the 12th campaign mission, while Disc 2 features the music that plays in the remainder of the missions as well as all of the interludes and other miscellaneous areas. And there is a tightly knit story about the horrors of war, and the euphoria of losing everything, and the afterlife and… it could have been just shlock, but it WASN’T. For a game about flying around in a fighter plane and blowing up bad guys, this soundtrack goes HARD. On its surface, it’s got this really glitzy 80s metal vibe to it interspersed with grand, sweeping orchestral interludes, and sometimes it just drops the bottom out from under all of it to bring these bittersweet, poignant moments. I first played this game when I found it in a Blockbuster store before I was in middle school, and the music (and snappy gameplay, I might add) just imprinted itself upon my pre-teen brain. The soundtrack to this game, especially in its dramatic moments, sticks to your goddamn bones. Now, this was a response to me mentioning that I was teaching myself some of the exquisite music in this game, and folks, I need to gush.
